Jahangir (1605-1627 AD), Silver Zodiacal Rupee, 'Aries' (ram) sign, Agra mint, AH 1030, RY not clear, 11.01 grams. Obv: a sign of Aries (as ram), with the sun rising behind. Rev: Farsi inscription Jahangir Badshah Akbar Shah Zarb Ahmadabad. As indicated in his autobiography, Jahangir decided to strike aseries of figural coins, each representing the solar zodiac sign of the month in which the coins were issued. These coins were struck from mints where the king was residing at the time. In the 13th year of his reign, Jahangir stayed in Ahmadabad the capital of the province of Gujarat to keep a close eye on campaigns in Rajputana and the Deccan. Coins of five zodiac signs – Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Leo, and Gemini – were struck during his stay at the Ahmadabad mint. Very Fine, Rare.
