Obv: single-hooded cobra, symbolizing Subbaraya, the 'patron deity of the Ghorpade family Rev: Nagari legend Sri Ramadurga visible in parts. Ramdurg and Nargund were two small Maratha states in Northern Karnataka ruled by the members of the Bhave family. At some time, they were feudatory to Murar Rao Ghorpade of Gooty. Obv: Farsi legend Huwa al-Sultan al Waheed al Adil Suyeem Bahari Sal Sha Julus Sanah 5 ("He is the Sultan, the Only One, the Just, On the 3rd of Bahari, in the Regnal Year Sha 5....")Rev: Farsi legend Ahmad Muhammad Deen dar Jahan Ast Raushan ze Fateh Haidar He Zarb Nagar Saal Sha Sanah 1215. ("The highly praised Faith of Muhammad is shining in the world through the Victory of the Lion; Struck at Nagar, Year 'Sha', Era 1215"). Silver issues of Nagar mint are exceptionally rare and the fractions even more so. Nagar, a.k.a. Bednur was occupied by Haidar Ali by sending Tipu to subjugate the local Nayaka rulers. It was one of the first campaigns in which Tipu’s military skills were put to use.
