Pratapgarh - Silver Rupee and ½ rupee (2 coins), Sawant Singh (1775-1825 AD), in the name of Shah Alam II, Deogarh mint, AH 1186/13 and 1196/24, KM 4 & 5, 10.80 grams and 5.20 grams. The series begins with coins of good Mughal style, like the ones offered in this lot. With passing years, the coinage became cruder and more stylized. These coins were later referred to as ‘old Salim Shahi’ rupees. Very Fine+, Rare.

Travancore – uninscribed Copper ‘Thira kasu’ of Venad kingdom, c. 1500-1600 AD, not listed in Sarasan, 0.70 grams. Obv: frontal standing human figure, holding a bow in one hand and an arrow in the other Rev: strung bow-and-arrow and a strung bow in a dotted circle. The figure on the obverse is evidently of Shri Rama. Sarasan lists similar coins with a ‘running Hanumana’ motif so plausibly this type is a counterpart in the same series. Very Fine, Rare.
