Austria-Burgau - Maria Theresa (1740-1780 AD), Silver thaler, AD 1780 (fixed), 'SF' mintmark, KM 22, 27.9 grams. The iconic thalers of Austro-Hungarian empress Maria Theresa were extremely popular in trade with Arabia and East Africa and after her death in 1780, the type continued to be struck with a fixed date. Minting of the ?Maria Theresa? thaler continued throughout the 19th century in Vienna, Venice, Milan, and Rome. In 1935, the Italian invasion of Ethiopia and disruption to silver supplies caused the British to strike their own in London and Bombay. Thalers were also struck in the 20th century at Birmingham, Paris, Utrecht, and Brussels. Uncirculated.
