Archaic Silver punch-marked coin, Pre-imperial Magadha 'series 0', c.400-300BC, Karshapana standard, not listed in TH, 3.30 grams. Obv: four punches - 1. six-armed symbol in middle 2. a knotted line, 3. traces of arched hill below, 4. traces of a taurine-like symbol. Rev: sun, tree, and other ancillary punches. These are perhaps the earliest Karshapana-standard coins struck in the Magadha region. The Karshapanas then became ubiquitous in areas, that the Magadhan Empire gradually covered as it spread across North India. Rare.
