Description

Almora Kingdom, Chand Rajas, Gurkha Occupation of Kumaon (1791–1815 AD), issued in the name of Shah Alam II, Copper Paisa, 5.90 grms, Obverse: Vishnu Padam as Mint Mark, Very Fine+, Very Rare From 1791 to 1815, the Gurkhas of Nepal occupied Kumaon after defeating the Chand Rajas. They ruled harshly through heavy taxation and strict control from Kathmandu. In 1815, the British defeated them in the Anglo-Nepalese War, ending their rule and annexing Kumaon under the Treaty of Sugauli in 1816.
